Packed

It has been a big 48 hours. There was a big storm in Melbourne which sent the city into chaos. The trains stopped working, which meant that I had to go and rescue my husband from work. The airport was also shut down. It made me think about tropical places that get storms like this all the time - does their world turn into this kind of chaos every week? Or perhaps Melbourne is just not built for these kind of conditions.

Luckily I chose the next day to fly to Adelaide. When I got to the airport at the ripe hour of 6am, there were people sleeping wherever they could find a spot. When I was waiting for the plane, I was talking to people who had been waiting since 11am the previous day.

The plane was delayed. That was expected. Then there was a change of aircraft. When we got on the plane, they told us that the aircraft that was supposed to take us to Adelaide was struck by lightning last night. Great.

I'm not the kind of person (well, I like to think that I'm not) that likes to whinge and whine about Melbourne's public transport and how crap QANTAS is. Really, I'm more concerned about getting to my destination safe.

I'll blog about the rest of my trip back and around to South Australia later. (The reason I say 'back and around', is because I have to fly over my home town and then drive 3 hours to actually get there. Yes I live in the sticks.)

Today I have to blog about my favorite TV show. Don't laugh. This is what I must do every Tuesday night, and it is to watch....

Packed to the Rafters!!!

And why I like this show so much? Because it's pretty genuine, and I can relate to the characters as I grew up in Australia. It's a good comedy/drama and it makes me both laugh and cry. I even have my Indonesian husband hooked on it!!!

I had better sign off now. It's my Mum's birthday so we're going to go and do... something...

Happy birthday, Mum.

The closest

Todays photo challenge requires me to post a photo with the person who is most closest to me for the longest amount of time. Admittedly I had to think about this. I have had plenty of friends who have stuck by me. Some of these friendships change due to the fact that we move on and life changes (doesn't mean we're not friends, it's just that 'closeness' changes). I also thought I could put my husband, as he would probably be closest to me, but I've known him less than 5 years, so, sorry sweetie.

Here's todays picture...

That is my sister. She is 2 years younger than me. So 16 years of my life I spent living under the same roof as her. Now we live interstate.

Now thinking about the word 'close' and what it means, does close mean you are happy all the time? Does close mean that you're attached at the hip? No way! In fact, in most of those 16 years, I probably spent arguing.

But I think close means that you can bounce back. Perhaps there's a level of resilience and forgiveness there. When I think about the people I am closest to, I think that this takes a big part.

Me & 10 facts

Ok, so todays photo challenge is a photo of me... and 10 facts. Actually this whole photo challenge could be tricky given that my Macbook's hard drive DIED and I didn't back up. Whoops.

Here are 10 facts you may or may not know about me:

1. My shoe size is 7.5. I like to think that this in between size makes me unique.

2. I drive a car that is only 2 years younger than I am.

3. When I first started learning Indonesian in Year 7 (first year of high school) I didn't even know Indonesia existed. I thought Indonesian was the national language of India. 10 years later and I am a fluent Indonesian speaker and married to a boy from Jakarta.

4. I have very long eye lashes.

5. I can't open my eyes under water.

6. When I was little I wanted to be a nun in a convent like Whoopie Goldberg.

7. I look like my maternal Grandmother. (apparently!)

8. I must listen to the radio, (or failing that, music of some sort) in the shower.

9. Green tea puts me on a peaceful high.

10. I must eat a toasted sandwich with a knife and fork.

numuro uno

So this could go either way - I could go overboard and do two blogs a day, or I could forget about this. Honestly I used to blog a lot about anything and everything. But with the rise of facebook and twitter, seriously who has time to blog when you can get your point through in 160 characters on your iPhone.

My MacBook also recently died. I relied on my iPhone for nearly 3 months. I think I've killed my eyes.

Anyway, this is what I'm going to do. On my blog, which I will try to make interesting, I will set myself a challenge, whereby I post a picture and tell you a bit about it... Wish me luck. Here's my list (please don't expect one a day!)
